The Ukrainian startup BIOsens conquers the world with the invention which helps to identify mycotoxins in products.

Ukrainian startup BIOsens received a grant of $ 100,000 at the international exhibition Expo 2020 in Dubai. In total, more than 6,900 companies registered in the Expo Live Innovation Impact Grant program at Expo 2020. Only 120 winners from 65 countries of the world were selected by the organizers, and they will receive grants.

What innovation did the Ukrainians present in Dubai

The project which was presented by BIOsens is a mobile device for a quick diagnosis of the presence of mycotoxins in agricultural products. Its sensors are able to detect an infection at an early stage in a corn, wheat, peanuts, feed, etc.

Analysis takes place in real time (within 25 minutes) and is cheaper than laboratory tests.

The project founder Andrei Karpyuk says that the mycotoxins (substances produced by fungus), which were not detected in time, can lead to illness and even death.

To use the gadget you need to fill the sample of the product into the cartridge, insert it into BIOsens, and after a few minutes you will see the result in the mobile application. Such an operational diagnostics will allow farmers to prevent the spread of the fungus in time, take the necessary measures and save the plants.

Last year, BIOsens also won the Climate Innovation Vouchers program from the EBRD and the EU, which was implemented by the Greencubator in Ukraine. The company spent the grant to finalize the prototype, test it, and to get its own certification for the device.
