Google has officially launched an R&D center in Ukraine, and it will be creating a new direction on the basis of CloudSimple.
It was stated that the Kyiv office is located in Astarta BC, where about 30 people work.
“We can confirm that CloudSimple has joined Google Cloud, which will help us improve the integrated VMware migration solution by enhancing support and adding new features for users,” Google’s representatives said.
So far, Ukrainian Google has only been busy working with local advertisers. Now it has become the 3rd of 8 Google offices in the CEE region with an R&D center. The other two are Google Poland and Google Hungary.
In November 2019, Google acquired CloudSimple with an office in Kyiv. And in January 2020, employees of CloudSimple’s Kyiv office became employees of Google’s office in the capital of Ukraine.
About CloudSimple
So what is CloudSimple? It lets businesses run VMware vSphere workloads on the cloud, allowing them to take their existing on-premises tools and databases and plug them into Google Cloud with minimal re-tooling.
However, sooner or later, there is a need to migrate existing virtual machines to the clouds which, in fact, are also physical servers with better infrastructure and capabilities. For enterprise companies, this is a non-trivial and troublesome process.
CloudSimple has created a solution that allows to conveniently transfer virtual machines created by VMWare products from the physical servers to public clouds, such as Google Cloud or Microsoft Azure, while remaining in the familiar VMWare environment.
“We believe in a multi-cloud world and will continue to provide choice for our customers to use the best technology in their journey to the cloud,” Rich Sanzi, a vice president of engineering at Google, wrote in a blog post.
